Our home. Our responsibility.

What you can do.*

Green starts with you. Here are a few easy ways you can help protect the environment. (And hopefully save some time, money and resources too!)

  • Be cool. Lower the thermostat on your water heater to 120.
  • It's a wrap. Wrap your water heater in an insulated blanket.
  • Out = Off. Turn down or shut off your water heater when you will be away for extended periods.
  • Lights out. Turn off not  needed lights when leaving a room - always.
  • Good-bye lint. Clean the lint filter in your dryer after every load so that it dries more efficiently.
  • Follow the star. Choose appliances with the ENERGY STAR® label to save energy.
  • Lighten up. Use compact fluorescent light bulbs to save money and energy.
  • Arbor Day is every day. Plant trees to shade your home.
  • Clean and simple. Avoid toxic cleaners and consider alternatives like baking soda, scouring pads, water, or a little more elbow grease.
  • The daily grind. Use a ceramic coffee mug instead of a disposable cup.
  • The only way to pay. Use an online bill pay service to save paper, envelopes and stamps.
  • Ditch the car. Use the greenbelt paths. Walk or ride your bike instead of driving, whenever possible.
  • More is less. Buying foodstuffs in bulk from loose bins saves on packaging.
  • Go fine. Use cloth napkins instead of paper ones.
  • Bag it. Bring a cloth bag when you shop instead of using store provided paper or plastic ones.
